Contest Areas Contest Descriptions
Ag Mechanics
• May enter only ONE Junior and ONE Senior team per chapter.
• May NOT enter any individuals.
• Teams may have 3 or 4 members. Top 3 scores will be used in tabulation.
Practicum –
Metal art using 12 old horse shoes: Teams are encouraged create a design before the day of the contest. Only the top 10 Senior and top 5 Junior teams on the exam score will be doing the practicum. Teams should bring a brush/grinder. Teams may bring the rod of their choice. 6010 or 6011 rod will be available. Contestants will have 30 minutes to complete the metal art project.
• Contestants must bring gloves, safety glasses, pliers, helmets, speed square, and soap stone and other items
• Junior teams will include grades 8-10.
• Will complete the Written Test.
• The Top 5 scoring teams from the written test will advance to perform a cutting and welding exercise creating metal art. (Arc).
• Senior teams will include grades 11-12.
• Will complete the Written Test and a Tool ID Test.
• The Top 10 scoring teams from the written and tool ID test will advance to perform a cutting and welding exercise creating metal art. (Arc).
• Written Exam and Tool ID will be multiple choice questions using scantron.
• Study resources include:
• CIMC Comprehensive Ag Mechanics General Safety - Ch. 1
• Shielded Metal Arc Welding – Ch. 3
• Gas Tungsten Arc Welding – Ch. 5
• Oxyacetylene Cutting – Ch. 7
• Plasma Cutting – Ch. 8

Meat Science
• May enter up to 2 teams per chapter.
• May enter up to 2 individuals per chapter.
• Teams may have 3 or 4 members. Top 3 scores will be used in tabulation.
• Test will consist of:
• 30 Retail Cut ID (beef, pork or lamb cuts possible)
• 3 Retail Cut Placing Classes.

• Teams may have 3 or 4 members. Top 3 scores will be used in tabulation. Each contestant shall have 45 minutes to complete the contest materials, which include the following:
• AP Style Exam
• Communications Component 1: Photography
• Communications Component 2: Graphics Class of Business Cards
