Letter to the Members:
My name is Bonham Eslick, and I am the 2025 2026 Southwest Area Vice President. I graduated from Elgin High School, where I was involved in FFA, NHS, and FCCLA. I grew up on a cattle ranch where my dad raises commercial Angus cattle. This inspired me to start my own cattle herd, where I raise registered Black Angus cattle to sell bulls and replacement heifers to other producers.
Since I was raised in an agricultural environment, I always knew I would join the FFA. What I didn’t know was how big of an impact it would leave on my life. I came in as a narrow-minded eighth grader who thought FFA was all about showing livestock. I realized I was sorely mistaken when, in the first two weeks, I was learning Opening Ceremonies, writing my first speech, and practicing for the Environment and Natural Resources Career Development Event. It was then that I knew this was going to be a very busy five years.
With the support of my ag teachers, Mr. Bradshaw, Mr. Lastly, and Dr. Graham, I became heavily involved in the public speaking and leadership side of the FFA. Through these events came some of my favorite memories in my high school career. One that sticks out the most to me was the bus trip home from the Washington Leadership Conference. Looking around that bus to see 56 individuals who had become some of my best friends after only knowing them for a week was a surreal moment. That was when I truly realized just how powerful this organization can be.
